ALLIANCE SOCIOCULTURELLE ET AIDE PÉDAGOGIQUE

Eternal Victor and Evens Valcin explain how integrative theater adapts to the psychosocial context to send an awareness message to young people from ethnocultural communities.

Our mission is to promote, through artistic creation, education and awareness among young people, and to take into account the diversity of the population; this, in the goal of meeting unmet social needs.

Renel Pognon

Board of Directors - President.

ABOUT ASAP

Based in the Saint-Michel district of Montreal, the Alliance Socioculturelle et Aide Pédagogique - ASAP - serves a very cosmopolitan clientele of various ages. Since its inception in 1992, ASAP has produced and directed more than forty plays on various themes of prevention and intervention with young people. There are also two important studies on Haitian theater in Quebec. This research led to the creation of the “Integrative Theater” concept.

The organization has also contributed to the publication of four books, namely; The Plague of the Century, dealing with AIDS; The Integrative Theater, an Alternative for Intercultural Rapprochement; Delinquency or Racism and How do they not become delinquents? Publications that have made it possible to raise awareness of the Haitian community, the problems of its young people and those of visible cultural minorities; without forgetting the possibilities of rapprochement between the other communities.

The organization was founded in 1986 and was incorporated on February 17, 1992 on behalf of the Alliance Théâtrale des Jeunes Haïtiens. It was renamed the Alliance Théâtrale Haïtienne (ATHA) on May 16, 1997, and in 2010 the name was changed to Alliance Socioculturelle et Aide Pédagogique. The organization works with young people in the cultural, artistic and educational fields.

Inclusive Theater

ASAP produces another genre of theater that prioritizes intervention and awareness. This by fully integrating the actors in the production process.

Exhibition-Conference

ASAP organizes discussion workshops and exhibitions as part of its efforts to intervene in the neighborhood. The guests are recognized experts in their field.

De l'amour à rabais

May 11th 2019

It is a theatrical piece that addresses the delicate question of the romantic relationship. The feeling of love has transformed over the centuries to the point of becoming like a consumer product. Love has always been a learned social behavior rather than a sacred ideal. This is what Jeunette, a character in the play, wonders, has already used a dating agency to find a soul mate.

Le sang et la sueur du nègre

June 26th 2021

The book introduces us to reading the history of slavery and its consequences on the future of black people. It shows how the West has built a whole talk about black skin in such a way as to stultify it forever. This discourse is found in all spheres of human activity: religions, philosophy, science and others.
